Experience & Specialisms: |
John trained with Deloitte Plender Griffiths in London and qualified in 1967. He transferred to the Montreal Office of Haskins and Sells and worked there and in various North American offices of the firm until 1971, when he returned to his home town of Plymouth and bought a partnership in Condy Mathias.
John has a range of small business clients in the Isles of Scilly, Cornwall and Devon and has particular interest in the agricultural sector. He also undertakes most of the firm's executorship and trusteeship work.
For many years John served on the Institute's local taxation advisory panel but more recently became involved in the establishment of the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth, a project on which he has served, mostly as a Trustee, since 1988. This work has provided useful experience of grant funding, negotiations in Brussels, Charity regulations and sitting on railway trains.
Outside interests include walking, observing and worrying about the natural environment, listening to orchestral music, Scottish country dancing, woodland management and being with his family. John is Honorary Treasurer of Devon Wildlife Trust, a past president of the Plymouth Proprietary Library and is a churchwarden of his local church. |
